#70

Managed search service that makes it simple to set up, manage, and scale search for websites and applications. Handles indexing, scaling, and maintenance so you can add rich search without provisioning hardware or managing search infrastructure.

Amazon CloudSearch is no longer available to new customers as of July 2024; existing customers can continue using the service. AWS recommends Amazon OpenSearch Service for new deployments. CloudSearch is powered internally by a customized version of Apache Solr and supports 34 languages.

Key capabilities:

  • Full-text, boolean, and faceted search with customizable relevance ranking and field weighting
  • Autocomplete suggestions and hit highlighting
  • Geospatial search
  • Multi-AZ deployment with automatic scaling and high availability
  • Configuration and management via AWS Console, CLI, and SDKs with IAM integration

Use cases include product search for e-commerce catalogs, document and content search across applications, forum and knowledge base search with faceted filtering, and location-based search for maps or listings. Developers integrate via AWS SDKs or REST APIs, with HTTPS and IAM for secure access control.
